Q&A

Who has influenced you the most in your life and why?

My mother has been the most influential person in my life, inspiring me to do my best in everything and become a better person every day. She is one of the most hardworking people I know, and most of who I am today is thanks to her. She shaped me to become a respectful, hardworking and caring person. My mother also taught me the importance of helping others in need without expecting anything in return.

What first sparked your interest in your chosen field?

I have always been good with numbers since I was little, but I didn’t decide to major in accounting until after speaking with a close friend who was about to graduate with a master’s degree in accounting. The endless career opportunities in accounting sparked my interest. A degree in accounting opens doors to many valuable careers in the business world. Because accountants are always needed, I feel like my skills will always be useful.

What do you want to do after graduation?

Upon graduating, I would like to further my education and obtain a CPA license. I plan to move to a big city like Nashville, Tennessee, and work in public accounting as an auditor. I want to apply the skills I’ve gained at Murray State to work for a firm that places people first.

Why did you select Murray State?

I chose Murray State University because of the campus size and distance from home, not too far or close. Murray State has a warm and welcoming environment where I have felt safe and cared for by those around me.

Who is one of your favorite professors and why?

Dr. O’Shaughnessey, an accounting professor, is one of my favorite professors at Murray State University. Her passion for accounting projects through her lectures, and her enthusiasm is contagious. Her teaching style makes it easier to understand complex concepts. I can tell she loves her job and wants students to succeed.

What is one of your favorite Murray State traditions/experiences?

One of my favorite traditions at Murray State is the Shoe Tree located in the Quad. The shoes nailed on the tree are from couples who met at Murray State and later married. Some have even nailed their baby's shoes to the tree after starting a family. I get to see the Shoe Tree every day as a walk to class, and I think it is a sweet and unique resemblance.
