What’s an interesting fact about you that would surprise most people?
I have backpacked sections of the Appalachian Trail with people that made me cut my toothbrush in half in order to conserve weight in my backpack.
What do you like about yourself?
I like the fact that I can make myself laugh and laugh for hours with others. I tend to have an optimistic outlook on life, and I can get along with a lot of different types of people.
Who is your favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor is Dr. Tinsley. I have had the pleasure of having her for several nursing classes, a clinical preceptor, and as my advisor. She has so many interesting stories and knowledge from her time as a nurse that she shares during class and clinicals. Also, she had excellent advice and advising skills last year when I had health issues that messed up my academic schedule.
What advice would you give high school students about college?
I would tell high school students that you do not have to worry about being “normal”. You do not have to try to be cool. It is way more fun to be yourself, even if you are goofy and weird. I have found that when you are genuine with others they are much more likely to be genuine with you. College allows you to schedule a lot of your time. Make sure to go to class and get involved.
Who has influenced you the most in your life and why?
Without a doubt, Jesus has influenced me the most. What he has done for me and continues to do has completely changed the way I live my life. I no longer live for me. I live for him.
How do you define success?
For most people there is not one clear cut right path to success. Success is planning, anticipating, and reacting to the situation you have been given and making the very best of that circumstance. Success is working so hard that when you finally take the time to look at where you began and where you are now, you are proud of how far you have come.
What is your favorite quote?
Let us be consumed with the creator of all things rather than things created.
I am looking forward to working as a nurse and helping the community that has helped me so many times before.
Nursing is a very demanding major, and I have been truly blessed by both scholarships and the community of support that I have received here at Murray State that have helped make it possible for me to continue with my degree.
