Want to challenge your students to examine the past to decipher the present?

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," or so the saying goes that is widely attributed to George Santanaya. No matter what subject one might teach, history plays a role. Developed by the Knight Lab, this open-source multimedia timeline tool can be used in the classroom to encourage students to take a deep dive into the history of a subject. This tool consists of a spreadsheet on the back end and is easy to use once the fear of spreadsheets is conquered. In this workshop, we will explore Timeline JS and come up with an assignment that encourages your students to research and think critically about a historical subject.

In this session participants will review the following:

•multimedia skills needed for research
•strategies to build a multimedia timeline to encourage students to think and relate the past to the present.
