Wyatt Daglá Severs Art Exhibit, Mary Ed Mecoy Hall Gallery

The Murray State University Galleries and the Department of Art & Design are pleased to present the art of Wyatt Daglá Severs, an artist who works in wood.

Severs studied art and wood working at Murray State University while working as a teacher’s assistant and shop technician in wood and has also studied, worked and/or taught at Peters Valley School of Craft in Layton, New Jersey; Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado; Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina; Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Tennessee.

Severs has participated in residencies at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and Penland School of Crafts. He is a member of the Furniture Society, the American Association of Woodturners, and the Kentucky Arts Council’s Teaching Artist Directory and Showcasing the Arts. And he also teaches woodworking through the Murray Art Guild and the Kentucky VSA Side-By-Side programs and in his own studio.

Severs’ work has been published in "500 Cabinets"; "Woodworking" magazine; “Maker Moxie”, The Impact of the Craft School Experience” and “Making Good, An Inspirational Guide to Being an Artist Craftsman”. He was also the sole recipient of the Kentucky Arts Council Emerging Artist Award in 2016. Severs continues his woodworking at his studio in Murray. He is currently making work for a solo exhibit at the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science in Evansville, Indiana that will show September 9th through December 30, 2018. In 2018 Severs will be teaching at the Appalachian Center for Craft and Penland School of Crafts in 2018.

A reception for Severs will be held on Friday, November 17 from 6-8 p.m. in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery. Admission is free and open to the public.
