The Murray State University Department of Art & Design and the University Galleries present “Supernumerary,” the BFA exhibit in sculpture by Ethan Best, on view in the Clara M. Eagle Upper Gallery from Nov. 17 through Dec. 1, 2017.
About his art, Best writes: My work is made by combining assemblage sculpture crafted largely from materials that are intended to deteriorate over time and time-based media, such as video and sound. Most of the work is also installation-based and incorporates the environment the piece is in.
Best, a senior from Bowling Green, Kentucky, is the son of Mike Best and Janet Best. The artwork in “Supernumerary” features sound, video and an assemblage of various found or collected materials as a commentary on how cultural perspectives influence the ways we interact with the world around us, and how we determine if something has meaning.
The reception for “Supernumerary” will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Clara M. Eagle Upper Gallery.
Admission is free and open to the public.
