National Science Foundation (NSF) – Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program - NSF limits the number of proposals submitted to a potential of three (3) per university. The Program Solicitation states:
An MRI proposal may request up to $4 million for either acquisition or development of a research instrument. Beginning with the FY 2018 competition, each performing organization may submit in revised “Tracks” as defined below, with no more than two submissions in Track 1 and no more than one submission in Track 2.
- Track 1: Track 1 MRI proposals are those that request funds from NSF greater than or equal to $100,0001 and less than $1,000,000.
- Track 2: Track 2 MRI proposals are those that request funds from NSF greater than or equal to $1,000,000 up to and including $4,000,000.
The next deadline for submission is on January 22, 2019. Since MSU is potentially allowed to only submit three (3) proposals, we need to plan for a possible internal competition. Anyone planning to submit a proposal in January must contact the Office of Sponsored Programs by November 14, 2018. This will give us time to hold an internal competition should there be more proposed submissions in each category than allowed. The solicitation can be found HERE and the limited submission policy can be found HERE.
The Office of Sponsored Programs publishes a quarterly newsletter giving information on services and funding opportunities.
