Welcome to the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications. JMC
students graduate prepared to excel in the media-related career of their
choice. Please take a few minutes to explore our majors in advertising,
journalism, public relations and television production. An area in
graphic communications management is offered by the department.
Four
minors are offered by the JMC department: advertising, graphic
communications technology, journalism and mass communications, and
photography.
A master's degree in mass communications is available for those who have completed their bachelor's degree.
The
JMC department is home to the student media. The Murray State News
publishes every Friday during fall and spring semesters; The News is on
the web at thenews.org. MSU TV 11 airs several student productions during the fall and spring semesters on the local cable system.
The JMC department is one of only 109 programs in the United States
fully-accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism
and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). In May 2010, the department received
its most recent six-year reaccreditation. Programs and majors are
reviewed frequently and updated to reflect national academic and
professional needs.
