As of January 1, 2010, academic prerequisites are changed and will apply to the March 1 deadline for the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Academic Nurse Educator. The applicant must have fulfilled these new prerequisites by the end of the spring 2010 semester with the exception of the Registered Nurse full time practice requirement. The prerequisites are:
  • Physiology
  • Anatomy
  • CHE111 or equivalent
  • Statistics (one course with both descriptive and inferential statistics content)
  • Nursing Research
  • Nursing Health Assessment
  • GRE minimum 1000
Minimum one year full time Registered Nurse experience (or 2000 clock hours) prior to application deadline for all options; however, for the Nurse Anesthesia option this experience must be in intensive care. Prerequisite courses must be completed prior to admission in the MSN program, are not credited towards the master's degree, and a grade less than C is not accepted.

If you have any concerns on whether or not a course meets a prerequisite, you may send the catalog course description and/or the course syllabus to:

The professional RN practice perquisite has been changed. Applicants must have a minimum of one year (or 2,000 hours) of RN practice prior to the application deadline. The practice area must be in critical/intensive care (not emergency or surgery) for the Nurse Anesthesia option. For the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator options, the practice area strongly recommended is medical/surgical.

The application deadline for Nurse Anesthesia is November 1; all other options March 1. For more information, please contact Dr. Dina Byers at dina.byers@murraystate.edu.
