Admission definitions

New Freshmen
High school graduate, never attended college.

Graduate applicants
Anyone holding a bachelor's degree who wants to take graduate-level courses.

New transfer
New transfer students are those undergraduates who have attended other institutions and are wanting to work toward an undergraduate degree at Murray State.

Readmissions (former MSU students)
Undergraduate students who previously attended Murray State University but have been away for two full years (unless in suspension) must apply for readmission. Students who attended another university while away from Murray State must have that school mail an official transcript. Actual readmission will depend on academic performance.

Post-baccalaureate
Students who have successfully completed the requirements for a baccalaureate or higher degree and wish to take additional undergraduate courses.

Visiting/transient
Undergraduate students currently enrolled at other colleges, in good standing, who want to enroll in courses at Murray State University for the purpose of transferring that credit back to their home colleges.

Non-degree
An applicant who only wishes to take courses for his or her own enjoyment, or to upgrade personal and professional skills, may enroll for non-degree credit.

Special high school students
Students who are currently enrolled in high school and want to request permission to enroll for courses prior to graduation. Inquiries should be directed to the student's high school counselor and then to Undergraduate Admissions.

International Students
Undergraduate students who will enter the U.S. with, or currently hold, an F-1 or J-1 nonimmigrant visa. Anyone who holds a resident alien card should refer to the other admission categories.

Other ways to attend
In addition to the traditional four-year campus experience, MSU offers degree opportunities that suit your circumstances and location. Below are links to some of the many ways we can help you reach your higher education goals.

Integrated Studies
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly five million adults were enrolled in colleges across the country in 1997. From 1999-2010, NCES projects an increase of nine percent in students aged 25 and older. Murray State's BIS program is a response to this revolution in higher education.

Regional campuses
Murray State University offers full-service offices at our Paducah, Henderson, Hopkinsville, Madisonville and Ft. Campbell regional campuses. There are a variety of courses and programs available for students who do not have access to the Murray campus.

Online courses
Online courses give distance learners and commuter students the ability to participate in on-campus life without needing to be physically present. Courses lead toward associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees.

Interactive television
This page will help guide you through some of the details about Interactive Television on Murray State's campus.

Non-credit courses
The Office of Conferences & Workshops offers a variety of non-credit programs, camps, and workshops to the public.
