Our Goal
The Upward Bound Program is designed to generate skills and motivation necessary to complete a program of secondary education and succeed in a program of postsecondary education.

Our Mission
At Upward Bound we want to motivate qualified high school students to pursue four year college degree programs, build academic skills that will provide a variety of career, cultural, and social experiences, and
imitate the college experience to increase the student's confidence in his/her academic abilities and social development.

The Program

Since 1966, the Murray State University Upward Bound Program has been committed to meeting the educational and cultural needs of high school students in our region. Upward Bound is designed to provide instruction in the necessary skills which will enable students to succeed in college. Academic, cultural, and career programs help students expand their knowledge and develop new ideas. The program's activities are provided free of charge to all eligible participants. Upward Bound members are students who are interested in succeeding in college.

Participant Requirements
Students can qualify in two ways:
1. Their families meet economic guidelines set by the United States Department of Education.
2. Their parents have not completed four year college degrees.

All of our students must qualify in one or both of these categories. To participate in Upward Bound, students should be enrolled in a college preparatory program in their high schools, agree to the terms of a free tutoring program, and participate in Saturday and summer events.
