America the Beautiful

Come see "America The Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments" at 6:30 p.m. on March 12, 2012 in the Curris Center Theater. There will be a discussion following the film with the director/producer, Daryl Roberts. 

The Women's Center has previously brought this award winning documentary to Murray State as a part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. 

The plot follows a 12-year-old model as she strives to be a supermodel. The documentary is said to be an enlightening film that has an accurate perception of America's degrading obsession with beauty, but in a very humorous and tasteful manor. Surprisingly the film has earned support of numerous people in the fashion industry including former Editor In Chief of Seventeen magazine, Atoosa Rubenstein.Critics are saying that this film is a powerful message that is important for everyone to hear. This impacting film has won awards such as the 2007 Gold Plaque for Best Direction, the American Cinema Editors Award for Best Documentary Editing and several more.  

This year, we will be bringing the second part of this film, America The Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments to Murray State's campus.

America The Beautiful

America the Beautiful is the must-see film of this decade, according to critics. The film focuses on how capitalism and the media affect society's obsession with beauty, especially in young women.

The Women's Center at Murray State University is joining the empowering movement by raising awareness of this important message, promoting the film, and raising money for a screenplay at Murray State University.
