The purpose of the Faculty Senate is to act as an effective faculty assembly which can, within the laws applicable to Murray State University, enter into a partnership for shared responsibility and cooperative action among the students, faculty, administration, Board of Regents, and other elements of the university:

To promote the growth and general welfare of the university.

To consider and express faculty judgement and recommendations on university affairs, including personnel, financial and university academic matters, as the Senate deems appropriate and necessary.

To afford avenues and procedures whereby communications within the university may flow freely, fully and systematically, and to accept and share responsibility for growth of scholarship, learning, teaching, research, service, and respect for human dignity and rights.

Faculty Regent Special Election October 2014

The following faculty members have been confirmed as candidates for both the Faculty Regent Special and Regular Elections. The balloting will take place October 13-14, 2014, online.  An open forum is scheduled in Wrather Auditorium from 3:30-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014. The forum is open to the campus community, and all are invited to attend.

Candidates to be placed alphabetically on the ballot are:

  • Dr. James “Corky” Broughton, professor, Department of Applied Health Sciences
  • Dr. Martin Jacobs, professor, Department of Adolescent, Career, and Special Education

Biographical Statements be found for candidates below. Only those faculty members of the rank of instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or professor are eligible to vote in the election. In the case of a runoff, the same polling procedures for the original ballot will be adhered to.

Please encourage your faculty to attend the open forum to support this very important governance process on campus. The position of faculty representative to the MSU Board of Regents is a very influential avenue for faculty input to the policies and procedures of the university.
