Family Weekend FAQ
When is Family Weekend 2017?
Family Weekend will be held September 22-24, 2017. This is a great time to visit campus to see your student’s college home! Many fun events are planned for the weekend so your family can have a great time together and learn more about Murray State University.
Where can I find the schedule of events?
A full schedule will be available in July.
What events can my student attend?
Your student is invited to attend all Family Weekend events.
When can I register my family for Family Weekend?
Registration will go live on July 1, 2017. Registration will take place online. On-line registration will close on Friday, September 15, 2017. Walk-up registrations will be accepted during Family Weekend.
What is the cost of Family Weekend?
Registration cost is only $20.00 per family. Please note there will be no refunds.
What is included in my registration fee?
Reception on Friday evening, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and up to 6 tickets to the MSU football game. What a bargain!
Are all Family Weekend events covered with the registration fee?
No, the following events will cost extra: Mr. MSU Pageant (Friday night), Fall Fanfare Concert (Saturday afternoon) the Racer Band Fundraiser Cookout Dinner (Saturday evening), and Continental Breakfast (Sunday Morning).
If I am a Racer Band Parent, should I pre-register for Family Weekend?
If I am a Racer Band Parent, how do I register for the Racer Band Fundraiser Cookout
Once you complete the Family Weekend registration, you will be directed to a link to register for the Racer Band Fundraiser Cookout Dinner. There is an additional cost of $10.00 to attend the Racer Band Fundraiser Cookout Dinner.
When I register, do I need to count my student in the number of football tickets and
No, do not count your student in your football ticket request and meal numbers. All MSU students get into the football game free when they present their Racer ID card. During all meals associated with Family Weekend, your student will present his/her Racer ID card and can eat with you at no charge.
Are divorced parents considered one family or two?
If you register for Family Weekend separately, then you will be considered two separate families. You may, however, register together and be considered one family.
Is housing provided for Family Weekend guests?
No, you will be responsible for your own housing. Area accommodations
When I arrive on Friday, where will we check in? What if I do not arrive until Saturday?
Family Weekend check in will take place at the Curris Center Friday and Saturday. Here is a link to a campus map, and the Curris Center is #23 on the map. Once at the Curris Center, signs and friendly faces will direct you.
Can my student pick up my welcome packet for me during check-in?
Yes, your student may be asked for confirmation information (Racer Card ID with same name or copy of confirmation e-mail). This is to ensure the correct family gets the correct welcome packet.
Should I bring my own lawn chairs for the picnic lunch?
You are welcome to bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, etc. The University Store (located in the Curris Center) will also have lawn chairs, blankets, and seat cushions available for purchase. There will be a limited number of 6’ tables and folding chairs available. Please note that MSU is not responsible for any personal items.
How many football tickets am I allowed to reserve?
Each registered family can receive up to 6 football tickets. If additional tickets are wanted, you will need to purchase those on game day at the ticket box office window at Stewart Stadium. Ticket prices will be standard general admission price.
Can I sit with my student during the MSU football game?
Yes, your tickets will be general admission, and you may sit with your student.
Can I set up my own tailgate for the football game?
Yes, to reserve a space around Stewart Stadium, call the Racer Athletics Office at 270.809.3746.
Where can I park during Family Weekend?
Your MSU parking pass, which you will receive at check-in, will allow you to park in any legal parking space on campus. Please observe and respect reserved spaces for handicap parking, special staff (i.e. Resident Directors), university vehicles, and emergency vehicles.
Is MSU a tobacco free campus?
As of August 5, 2015, MSU is a tobacco-free campus. Here is a statement from the Murray State Tobacco Policy: The use of all tobacco products is prohibited on all property that is owned, operated, leased, occupied, or controlled by the University.
