Brazil Student Teaching Experience Program
The Brazil International Student Teaching Experience allows students in Teacher Education at Murray State University to complete the second placement of their student teaching semester in Brazil at the Escola Americana de Campinas. The American School in Campinas is located in the State of Sao Paulo in Brazil. The school is a rich cultural and academic setting, from Preschool to 12th grade. The American School of Campinas is fully accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) since 1970, the same accrediting body for MSU. Therefore, unlike the Belize program, the Brazilian International Student Teaching Experience officially fulfills one half of the student teaching semester. Teacher observations will be completed by the EAC principal and superintendent. Additionally, Skype conferencing will take place with your College of Education Advisor during your program in Brazil.
This program requires a student with independence. You may be the only participant from MSU or one of up to 4 participants. Students are housed in homestays with meals provided at the homestay and lunch provided at school. Transportation to and from school will be provided by the homestay family.
Community Service is a large part of the school's mission. MSU participants in the EAC program will be expected to participate in a Service project while in Brazil completing the International Teaching Experience.
• Student teachers who have met all requirements for admission to the Teacher Education Program
• Must have passing scores on the Praxis specialty exams and Principles of Learning and Teaching Exam prior to the deposit deadline
• 3.0 overall GPA or 3.0 from previous semester ACT score of 21 or higher
• No negative flags
• Murray State Majors/Certifications that are eligible include: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Elementary, ESL, English, French, Portuguese, History, IECE Birth-5, Mathematics, Middle School (Math, Science, Social Studies, English), Physical Education, Spanish
Participants will reserve their own flights and fly into Campinas (Viracopos Airport - VCP) or Sao Paulo (Guarulhos airport - GRU), where they will be met by a representative of EAC and taken to their homestay placement. MSU participants should coordinate their arrival and will have a chance to do so after acceptance is issued to the program.
A visa is required for entry to Brazil. The MSU Study Abroad Office will assist students with the visa process, which takes up to 6 weeks. The Brazilian consulate stamps the visa into the passport so your original passport will need to be sent in for visa processing. Thus, it is vital that the passport be available in hand by the start of the semester in which the student will participate in the Brazil International Student Teaching program. If you do not have a passport, you can learn how to apply at travel.state.gov.
Program Fee: $1493
Program Fee includes housing, meals, transport to and from school daily, airport transfer in Brazil, Brazil visa fees, EAC placement fee.
Program Fee does not

Federal Financial Aid applies to the cost of study abroad programs. Contact the MSU Financial Aid and Scholarship Office to determine your eligibility. Murray State University also supports study abroad through Study Abroad Scholarships. In addition, the College of Education also has multiple funds set up within its departments to support student participation in study abroad.
