Teacher Quality Institute (TQI)

The Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) is a significant Murray State University (MSU) regional outreach program that is funded by the Council on Post Secondary Education's Regional Education University Excellence Trust Fund Action Agenda Program. TQI collaborates with the deans, administrators and faculties of MSU's colleges. A major focus of TQI's programs has been to improve the content knowledge and pedagogical skills of public school educators and concomitantly to improve the achievement scores of regional public school students. TQI's staff members identify and recruit highly qualified young people into MSU's teacher preparation program. A staff member devotes one-half of his time identifying and recruiting minority students. TQI has established partnerships with 28 different school districts. These include providing professional development opportunities for teachers, offering a dual credit teacher education program for regional high school students, providing scholarships for teachers and students, supporting Future Educators Association, conferences, providing alternative certification opportunities for qualified individuals and seeking and obtaining grants in math, science and foreign language to support TQI's regional outreach programs.
