Dual Credit Courses

TQI established a pilot dual credit high school/college teacher education program in six regional high schools. The development of this program was a collaborative effort that included planning with the MSU College of Education administration and faculty, representatives from other MSU departments, public school faculty and staff, high school students, and West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC).

Two education courses are offered to highly capable high school seniors who indicate a willingness to explore a possible career in teaching. The courses are designed to provide students with an insight into the nature of teaching, the problems of schools and the issues affecting the quality of education. They also include teaching related activities, outside speakers and college campus visits. The classes include observation and participation in a variety of settings including primary/elementary and middle school classrooms, special education, pre-school programs, secondary content specific classes, remedial programs and vocational/technical programs.
