Message from the Dean

Dr. David Whaley, Dean of COEHS

I am very pleased to welcome you to the new College of Education and Human Services.  On July 1, 2014, the blending of the College of Education with the Department of Community Leadership and Human Services and with the Center for Communication Disorders became a reality.  This is an exciting time as we now have the opportunity to move ahead with new colleagues, an expanded array of disciplines, and so many enhancements to offer our students.  Located in Alexander Hall, the Carr Health Building, and Applied Science (South), this College will have a large footprint on campus.

I am fully committed to the success of the new college.  To me, it represents an outstanding blending of the best of the best in both formal and non-formal education programs.  From elementary education to nonprofit leadership studies, from principal preparation to social work, from interdisciplinary early childhood education to communication disorders, from environmental education to recreation and leisure services, from school counseling to criminal justice (to name only a few), this College will have so much to offer our students and community.  We anticipate there will be excellent opportunities for faculty colleagues to share their wisdom and experience across their many disciplines.  We fully expect that this synergy will yield an abundance of remarkable offerings for our students and we are truly excited about what lies ahead.

Overall, the future looks very bright for our new college.  We have much work that lies ahead in order to ensure that we take advantage of every opportunity that this merger provides us.  Yet, the advantages for greater collaborations, student growth, and enhanced influence far outweigh the work.

Please do not hesitate to let us know what we can do for you.  I want to invite you to further explore this website for additional information on specific programs or to arrange a personal visit with our faculty and staff in the College of Education and Human Services.

Best wishes,

David Whaley, Dean
