With a class or a minor in Youth & Nonprofit Leadership you needn't wait until graduation to make a difference. Students in YNL classes begin developing service projects the very first day of class through a teaching and learning process referred to as service learning. Service learning is a field experience that combines community service with specific learning objectives. Service learning has proven to be one of the strongest teaching and learning methodologies while providing valuable services to individuals in the community.

AH/YNL students received the very first AH National Award of Excellence in Service. They have contributed over 90,000 hours of service to the community and in doing so; created the YMCA, United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and the Campus Connection Volunteer Center. These are just a few of the many successful projects initiated by YNL students.

All YNL classes are designated as service learning. Any MSU student who completes 4 service learning classes and maintains a 3.0 GPA or higher in those classes and a 2.75 GPA overall will be designated as a Service Learning Scholar at graduation. This is a highly valuable recognition for future employment opportunities!
