Message From the Chair
Message From the Chair Welcome to the Department of Nursing, Murray State University. The faculty and students have made every effort to provide accurate and updated information via this WEB site, but please never hesitate to email or call us with further questions. We offer a BSN, RN-BSN, and MSN program. The BSN is taught on the Murray campus and is taught over a four-year period. Students are actually admitted into the nursing courses usually during the sophomore year. Experiences are varied throughout the three years of nursing courses from practice laboratory
experiences on campus, to health departments across West Kentucky, to St. Jude's Research Center in Memphis, and with multiple experiences in Paducah's and Murray's hospitals. These are just a few of the opportunities available. Almost 100% of our graduates find positions before they even graduate; please explore us for future nursing challenges. The RN-BSN program is taught via the WEB or via interactive TV in Murray, Paducah, Madisonville, Henderson, and Hopkinsville. Our coordinator, Marian Smith, works exclusively with the RNs returning for the BSN. Depending on how quickly an RN takes courses, one can finish the nursing courses in less than two years. The MSN program has three options: nurse anesthesia, clinical nurse specialist (adult health), and family nurse practitioner. Each option has a different time length and some varying admission criteria; be sure to check the deadlines for application. These graduates practice throughout west Kentucky, Tennessee, and southern Indiana. They have been very successful on the national certifying exam allowing them to practice advance practice nursing. Again, welcome and let us know if there is any other information we can provide for you.
