Pre-Phyisical Emphasis

The pre-physical therapy emphasis is designed to help students meet requirements necessary prior to application for graduate programs in physical therapy. Most schools that offer a physical therapy degree require similar prerequisites and criteria for admittance; however, we recommend that students make an early decision on programs they are considering so that specific individual program requirements can be completed.

Graduating with a pre-physical therapy emphasis does not guarantee acceptance into a physical therapy program. To improve success, students should demonstrate exceptional academic performance, possess leadership skills and organizational involvement, demonstrate knowledge of the profession, have good communication abilities, and demonstrate service to the community.

Physical therapy is a health care profession that focuses on improving optimal health, movement, and function. Physical therapists apply scientific principles to prevent, diagnose, and provide interventions to minimize or alleviate dysfunction. To practice physical therapy, one must graduate from an accredited physical therapy program and pass a national board examination to obtain licensure. Physical therapists work in a variety of settings and with individuals throughout the lifespan.
