Speech and Debate Union
The Speech and Debate Union (SDU) is comprised of the eight residential college debate societies, the unified travel team, and the executive council of scholarship recipients and society captains. On-campus workshops are held to help college students learn leadership, persuasion and analytical skills.
The regional and national award-winning travel team competes yearly
in debate, extemporaneous, impromptu, informative, persuasive speaking,
etc. In addition, the SDU sponsors on-campus debates and an annual Provost
Premiere, which involves participation from university and community
leaders.
The SDU encourages students from all departments to avail themselves
of this cultural and educational experience that includes
interaction with diverse groups of people, travel throughout the country
and the
refinement of communication skills. Qualified students
may be eligible for membership in Pi Kappa Delta or Delta Sigma Rho-Tau
Kappa Alpha
Speech and Debate Honor Fraternities. The SDU supports
the American Democracy Project.
