Welcome to the Center for Gifted Studies!  Thank you for exploring our website and learning more about the services provided to parents and gifted children in the region.  The Center for Gifted Studies was established in 1998 to serve as a gifted education resource in the Murray State University Service Region.  The Center is located at 3205 Alexander Hall on the Murray State University main campus.  Services include professional development programs for teachers, regional and international enrichment opportunities for gifted students during the academic year and summers, and informational and assessment services to parents.

CERTIFICATE:
Endorsement for Gifted Education

This endorsement serves as a specialization area for students who are enrolled in Masters of Art in Education, or a Rank I program in elementary, middle, or secondary education.  You may also complete a 12 hour, stand alone gifted education endorsement specialization for the certification.

The Center prepares teachers to promote excellence in gifted education with three modes of delivery: face-to-face with cohort groups, online, and through its online program in Spanish.   A one year successful teaching experience is required for the endorsement to a Kentucky teaching certificate.  The endorsement is valid for grdes P-12, except in those circumstances where the teaching assignment is to a full-time self-contained gifted education class; in such a case, the endorsement is restricted to the level of the base certificate.  and is valid for grades K-12.

The William O. Price Gifted Resource Collection is housed at the Center for Gifted Studies and the Center also offers special programs and events throughout the year.

Career Outlook:   There is a pressing need for general classroom teachers and gifted resource teachers in Kentucky and beyond who are prepared to address the needs of the gifted.  Regulations (704 KAR 3:285) state that,  “A student diagnosed as possessing gifted characteristics, behaviors or talent shall be provided articulated, primary through grade twelve services which are qualitatively differentiated to meet this individual needs.”
