Alpha Mu Gamma is the National Honorary Society for Foreign Languages.
Alpha Mu Gamma was established at Los Angeles City College on April 29, 1931.
The name "Alpha Mu Gamma" is composed of the names of the initial Greek
letters found in the phrase "Emf Mouse Glisson", meaning "For the Muse of Languages."
Alpha Mu Gamma sponsors many different activities throughout the year including
workshops, artists, and the Foreign Language Festival in March. There is one
initiation ceremony into AMG which occurs during the Fall Semester. In order to
qualify for initiation, a student must have at least Sophomore standing, have completed
a minimum of two semesters of college foreign language with at least two grades of
"A" in unrepeated courses, and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00.
