Endorsement in English as a Second Language
 
 

In keeping with Kentucky Department of Education guidelines, graduate students who hold or are earning a certificate to teach at the elementary, middle school or secondary level may seek a K-12 certificate endorsement in English as a second language by completing the following 12 semester hours of course work:

 
  ENG 310   Linguistics and English Grammars     -OR-
  ENG 531   Introduction to Linguistic Science
  TSL 533   Language and Culture
  TSL 510   Applied Linguistics for Second Language Teaching
  TSL 530   Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL
 
 
Other Requirements
 
 

An oral examination is required. English as a Second Language certificate endorsement seekers are required in Kentucky to take the Teaching English as a Second Language Praxis exam upon completion of the above courses.

 
 
 
The requirements listed above are an example of what is applicable to most students entering Murray State University at the present time. Criteria as they may relate to individual students may vary. The primary source is the Graduate Bulletin applicable at the time of the student enrollment.
