The Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing
- An affordable MFA at one of Kentucky's most prominent public universities
- One-to-one study with prize-winning faculty mentors
- Two-year 48-credit-hour program, with four intensive 9-day residencies
- Situated near The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area
The low-residency MFA at Murray State allows student writers to work on their craft where they live while workshopping their writing online or by traditional mail with prize-winning writers. Twice a year, in July and January, students attend a 9-day residency at MSU to join a community of writers for intensive study, workshops, readings, and lectures. More...

faculty spotlight
A Boston native and former Peace Corps Volunteer, Ann Neelon
is a graduate of the MFA program at the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst and the author of the book Easter Vigil, winner of
the Anhinga Prize for Poetry and the RPCV Writers and Readers Award.
She has been a Wallace Stegner Fellow as well as a Jones Lecturer in
Poetry at Stanford University. She is also the winner of an Al Smith
Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council, and fellowships from the
Kentucky Foundation for Women, the National Endowment for the Humanities,
and Yaddo Artists Colony. She is the editor of the national literary
journal New Madrid, published through Murray State University's
MFA Program. More...
