The Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing

• An affordable MFA at one of Kentucky's most prominent public universities
• One-to-one study with prize-winning faculty mentors
• Two-year 48-credit-hour program, with four intensive 9-day residencies
• Situated near The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area

The low-residency MFA at Murray State allows student writers to work on their craft where they live while workshopping their writing online or by traditional mail with prize-winning writers. Twice a year, in July and January, students attend a 9-day residency at MSU to join a community of writers for intensive study, workshops, readings, and lectures. More...

Author of Ruby River, novelist Lynn Pruett is one of the original mentors in our program. Lynn has contributed stories and essays to numerous national publications including American Voice, Southern Exposure, Black Warrior Review, and Tobacco. A winner of writing fellowships from Yaddo, Sewanee, Squaw Valley, and the Kentucky Arts Council, Lynn is presently an active artist-in-residence for the Carnegie Center for Literacy in Lexington.
