the program » cost/financial aid Announcement regarding out-of-state tuition

Murray State offers an affordable low-residency Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program to non-residents of Kentucky and those students outside our special regional tuition area. To help make sense of the costs, we have provided a breakdown showing tuition and course fees based on 2009-2010 rates for students in the Out-of-State/Out-of-Region category. We've also included in-state tuition and regional tuition discount information below, for helpful reference.

We're providing this information as an approximate guide to help you plan your education. For more information, see our Cost/Financial Aid page or the Bursar's office Fee Schedule.

Before You Begin

Please determine whether you qualify for regional tuition. Regional tuition discounts vary among the states of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee, and further vary in certain counties within Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee. See our Cost/Financial Aid page or the Bursar's office Fee Schedule for complete breakdowns.

If you're not a Kentucky resident, and you don't fit into the Regional Tuition category, please refer to the following for Out-of-State (Out-of-Region) Residents.

Out-of-State (Out-of-Region) Residents

Starting fall 2008, out-of-state students will enroll for their tutorials and grad level literature courses as WEB courses. Based upon 2009-2010 tuition rates, this will lower the cost for those applicable courses from $1,060.50 per credit hour to $480.50 per credit hour.

This reflects an approximate total (dependent upon any previous transferable graduate literature courses) for a full MFA program at MSU in tuition and fees.

FOR REFERENCE

Below, for further reference, see tuition rates for Kentucky residents, and regional tuition discounts for qualifying border states and counties.

Regional Tuition Discounts

Students residing in the Tennessee counties of Henry, Obion, Stewart and Weakley receive discounted tuition rates, adjusted to the equivalent of Kentucky in-state tuition.

Students residing in Massac County in Illinois, or the Indiana counties of Posey, Vanderburgh or Warrick receive discounted tuition rates, adjusted to the equivalent of Kentucky in-state tuition.

Students from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee (outside the above counties) who are admitted or re-admitted (after a one year absence) beginning in the summer 2001 will be assessed out-of-state tuition, but with a tuition discount credit reflecting the difference between Murray State University's out-of-state tuition and an average in-state rate, based on college rates from the student's state of residency on record with Admissions Services.

Regional tuition discounts vary among the states of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee, and further vary in certain counties within Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee.
