Allison Joseph's Creative Writing Opportunities Listserve
This listserve will ensure that you don't lack for opportunities delivered to your mailbox daily. Probably, on-average, signing up for this will get you three to four emails a day. This holds some great possibilities, from major contests to genre opportunities. If you don't think your current email can handle it, sign up for another email address. They're free at Yahoo, Lycos, Excite, hotmail, AOL, and many other sites.

Laura Hird's Lit Mag Central
This collection of literary magazines has an international range. While most of the journals are North American, many are all over the globe, ranging to six of the seven continents (Antarctica is yet to be listed).

LitLine
A comprehensive, exhaustive list of literary presses, journals, and organizations. Tremendous resource of links, listed alphabetically. Several places online are only listed here.

A site for and by writers, mostly novelists.

Sherry Chandler, the president of the Kentucky Poetry Society, maintains a web site filled with opportunities, literary news, and reviews. Look under "publishing," about halfway down the page, on the left.

A very hip, high-grahics site rife with literary journals seeking work. WDS also contains reviews, interviews, and news.

Alliance of Artist's Communities
This lists communities and residencies all over the country.

Bartleby
This has basically any resource page you could want: thesauri, dictionaries, Shakespeare's Collected Works, and a general wealth of info on variuous subjects, including Bartlett's Quotations.

Etymologies
Ever wonder where a word's been? This is a site for word histories.

Kentucky Literary Newsletter
Charlie Hughes does a fantastic job of promoting literary goings-on in the Commonwealth, from readings to books signings and seminars. You can receive this via-email as well.

American Academy of Poets Homepage
Resources here include tools for finding poets and poems, and also resources for teaching poetry.

Poetry Links Library
This site divides into five relevant, thoroughly-researched categories: Poets of Renown, Online Poetry Journals, General Poetry Resources, Haiku Renga, and Japanese Forms, and Contemporary Poets on the Web.

Poets and Writers
This is the link to the website for Poets and Writers magazine, with lots of "deadline" sections for submissions to contests, publications, and grants and awards. Also the home of relevant interviews and articles about writing.

World Wide Words
A site devoted to words, their histories and nuances.

Writer's Almanac Hosted by Garrison Keillor
This is a great way to start or end the day. The somnambulent tone of voice, the poems, and the snippets of info about writers combines for some pretty nice moments.

Some exercises to punch through writer's block and to spur creativity.

Appalachian Writer's Association Web site for the AAP
Includes a "find a poet" resource. They also sell recordings of poems that may be difficult to find elsewhere.

AWP
The Association of Writers and Writing Programs publishes The AWP Chronicle, a high-quality journal with informative articles and information relevant to writers. AWP also holds an annual convention for its national membership.

Green River Writers
A group of Kentucky-based writers. They sponsor a contest and have frequent meetings in and around Louisville.
