The Murray State University Creative Writing Program, part of the Department of English and Philosophy and the
College of Humanities and Fine Arts, is a writing-intensive program that strives to serve new writers
at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our program of study combines workshop experience with
courses in literature and form in order to give our students a well-rounded and broad approach to their
craft.
Students can earn a minor, BA, or MA in Creative Writing from Murray State. We also offer a
low-residency MFA in Creative Writing. Although the majority
of our writing workshops are intended primarily for creative writing students, we welcome students from other
areas permitted they discuss their plans with one of our faculty members in advance.
If you are considering Murray State and its Creative Writing Program, we encourage you to contact one
of our faculty for information and to visit the campus. Murray is a rural community located in the
heart of the Jackson Purchase in southwest Kentucky and provides an excellent setting to harness your
creative energy. While here you can engage in a variety of opportunities afforded students in the
program, including the English Student Organization and Notations, Murray State's student-run literary
magazine.
