"The music program at Murray State has been wonderful. The faculty and staff are
here to ensure that each student's needs are met and that we are provided practical
learning experiences to apply what we've learned."

The Department of Music has been a member of the
National Association of Schools of Music since 1936. The department has
a long and outstanding tradition of excellence. Graduates with degrees in music
from Murray State University serve as leading musicians in such roles as opera
singers, popular recording artists, professional symphony musicians, jazz
educators, songwriters, television writers, public school music teachers,
university music department chairs, instrument technicians, church musicians,
and college music teachers.
Within this academic framework , the department provides a comprehensive music
education for the aspiring professional teacher, performer and composer.
Courses and performance opportunities for the non-major seek to involve
students and other members of the community as participants in the music-making
process. Interaction with the university community provides rich leadership
experiences for music students who are called upon to lead events and
organizations such as the All-Campus Sing, Campus
Lights music production, local church choirs, social group
ensembles and chamber groups. Physical facilities, resources and personnel
contribute to the department's high regard as the musical center of the region.
The Department of Music is pleased to announce the availability of a new degree program in
Music Business. The program combines the music curriculum
with cooperative education and courses in business, management, and marketing to prepare graduates
for careers in the Music Industry.
