    Performances begin at 1 PM. Participants will be scheduled and notified of time by mail. Festival performances will be open to the public.
 
  Eligibility
 
    Students currently enrolled in school from grades five through twelve.
 
  Awards
 
    Participants will receive a gold, silver or bronze medal, and a certificate of participation.
 
  Application
 
   

A non-refundable entry fee (see each level) must accompany the application form and be postmarked no later than Saturday, April 14, 2007. Make check payable to Keyboard Recruiting/MSU Department of Music, and send to Dr. Richard Scott, Festival Director, Contemporary Keyboard Festival, Department of Music, 504 Fine Arts Center, MSU, Murray KY 42071-3342. Late applications will be subject to an additional $10 fee.

  Organ Repertoire
 
   

Organ repertoire must have been composed after 1900 and may be performed with music. Two levels with examples of literature follow to serve as general guidelines. Repertoire substitutions are encouraged and may be made as indicated on the application form; substitutions will be reviewed by the director. More than one selection by the same or different composer may be performed with the following qualifications: the most difficult selection determines the level, and combined performing time must not exceed ten minutes.

Level I
Entry fee: $15
Selected preludes and hymn settings by Paul Manz, Gordon Young, or Don Hustad. Ffor example, Offertory on Dennis, by Gordon Young.

Level II
Entry fee: $20
Messiaen, Le Banquet Celeste; Langlais, Ten Pieces, Suite Medievale; selected works by Dupre, Alain, and Persichetti.

 
 
  Piano Repertoire
 
   

Piano repertoire must have been composed after 1900 and must be performed from memory. Four levels with examples of literature follow to serve as general guidelines. Repertoire substitutions are encouraged and may be made as indicated on the application form; substitutions will be reviewed by the director. More than one selection by the same or different composer may be performed with the following qualifications: the most difficult selection determines the level, and combined performing time must not exceed ten minutes.

Level I
Entry fee: $15
Bartok, Mikrokosmos, Volumes I and II, Evening in the Country; Kabalevsky, 22 Pieces for Children, Op. 27, nos. 2, 9, 10; Copland, Sunday Afternoon Music. All selections in this category must be at least 15 measures and a full page in length.

Level II
Entry fee: $15
Bartok, Mikrokosmos, Volumes III and IV, Rumanian Folk Dances, nos. 1-4; Kabalevsky, 22 Pieces for Children, Op. 27, nos. 19, 20; Copland, The Young Pioneers.

Level III
Entry fee: $15
Bartok, Mikrokosmos, Volumes V and VI, Rumanian Folk Dances, nos. 5, 6, 3 Rondos on Folk Tunes; Prokofiev, Visions Fugitives, Op. 22, nos. 4, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15; Ginastera, American Preludes, nos. 6, 7, 9, 11; Copland, The Three Moods, The Cat and the Mouse.

Level IV
Entry fee: $20
Extended piece or sonata movement by Prokofiev, Copland, Stravinsky, Ginastera, Bartok, or Kabalevsky.

 
 
  Additional Information
 
   
  • Repertoire difficulty, and not age, grade, or length of study determine repertoire assignment level.

  • On festival date, each soloist will provide the evaluator with a clean edition of the score with the measures numbered. No photocopies, please. Soloists will try the instrument prior to performing.

  • The evaluator will provide written comments. The decision of the evaluator will be final. Evaluators reserve the right not to select a gold medal winner in each category.
