The Department of Psychology offers a variety of extracurricular opportunities that supplement classroom work. Students can hear presentations by guest speakers, attend discussions and colloquia, and avail themselves of a variety of other activities to further their education in psychology outside the classroom.

Psi Chi Key

Organizations and activities sponsored by the department are:

  • Psi Chi
  •
The department sponsors a chapter of Psi Chi, the national psychology honor society, to which psychology majors, minors, and graduate students can apply. Applicants must have completed at least 3 semesters of college, have taken at least 9 hours of psychology courses, and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in both their psychology classes and cumulative grades.

  • Psychology Club
  •
The Psychology Club offers an opportunity for anyone interested in psychology to join with like-minded students in both social and service-oriented activities. The club has sponsored guest speakers and panel discussions on topics ranging from eating disorders to sport psychology to career planning and graduate school preparation. Club members have taken field trips to locations as diverse as a state psychiatric hospital and a university's doctoral program recruitment fair and have joined together in fund-raising activities like bake sales, yard sales, donation drives, and cookouts to raise money for worthy causes. Membership is open not only to psychology majors and psychology minors, but to any MSU student interested in psychology.
