The Department of Theatre offers opportunities for students to learn the art and craft of theatre through numerous, diverse productions each year. A major in theatre provides the training and experience for those who wish to pursue careers or avocations in the theatre or associated businesses, including acting, directing, technical theatre, and dance.

The department is a competitive area with excellent placement records. Scholarships are awarded to select students who excel in their theatre area.

In spring of 2008, the Department of Theater was granted membership with the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). The department joins a select group of nationally recognized schools with accredited programs in theater.

Students in theatre may join or be invited to join the following clubs and organizations: Alpha Psi Omega (national honorary drama fraternity), and Sock and Buskin.
