When, how and where do I get my RacerCard?

New students should have their RacerCard pictures taken at Summer O. If you did not take a picture at Summer O, you will need to come to the RacerCard Office to take one. Know your M# and bring another photo ID.

Students living on campus will receive their cards upon moving into a residential college or college courts.

Commuters may pick up their cards at the RacerCard Office in August. For Fall 2009, because all campus IDs are being reissued, a distribution center will be set up on the first floor of the Curris Center. Commuter card distribution hours are 10a.m. - 6p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 21, with the exception of Sunday, Aug. 16, which will be 1-6p.m.

Care of the RacerCard

If taken care of properly, the RacerCard should last all four years at MSU. It should not be bent or scratched. It must be in good condition to enable the card readers to scan effectively.

    Fall 2009: ALL NEW IDS

This summer ALL Murray State IDs will be updated.  This includes all faculty, staff and student RacerCards.

Click here to see the new cards.
Click here to see the recarding timetable.

Why?  With the new Banner (aka myGate) system, the M Number will replace the Social Security number for campus use. To protect your identity and comply with the new Banner system, the RacerCard Office is replacing all current RacerCards at no cost.

What do I have to do for a new card? If you have an ID, your picture should be on file and a new card will automatically be made for you.

If you are a new student and did not take a picture at Summer O, you will need to come to the RacerCard Office to take one. Know your M# and bring another photo ID.

An extremely small percentage of campus may not have a picture on file due to past technical errors. When these individuals report to pick up a card, they will be directed to the RacerCard Office to take a picture and immediately have a card created. Faculty and Staff who frequently use their IDs should make all possible efforts to ensure the RacerCard Office has their picture on file before the transition to student card updates in late July and August. Photos will be taken in person at the RacerCard office and accepted by e-mail to racercard@murraystate.edu. Include your M# in your e-mail or have it on hand when you visit the office. You may find your M# on myGate. If a photo is not on file for you, you will NOT receive an automatic replacement at the staff luncheons. Students may NOT e-mail an ID photo. All student photos must be taken in person by RacerCard staff.

When and where will I receive my new card?

Students Living ON Campus: You will receive your card when you check into the residential college or college courts. Returning students should bring their current ID to exchange for the new one.

Students Living OFF Campus:  Pick up your card in Curris Center. Returning students should bring their current ID to exchange for the new one. A distribution center will be set up on the first floor. Distribution Hours: 10a.m. - 6p.m. Aug. 12 - 21 (1 - 6p.m. Sunday Aug. 16) After Aug. 24 you may pick up your card during regular business hours (8a.m. - 4:30p.m. M-F)  inside the RacerCard Office, 101 Curris Center.

Faculty and Staff: You should receive your card Aug. 4 or 14 at the luncheon.  If you are not attending, pick up your card during regular business hours Aug. 3 - 7 at the RacerCard Office. If the RacerCard is not a day-to-day necessity for you and you did not receive one at your luncheon, please help us reduce the crowds and confusion by waiting to take a picture and pick up a new card.  The RacerCard staff will be much better equipped to personally address your needs after the mass distribution (to be completed by September).

We appreciate your patience during this time. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call the Racercard Office at 809.3003.

THE M NUMBER

Find your M number beneath your name on myGate.

The M number will be used in place of your social security number for most campus interactions.

M number? What is that? M is short for Murray, the eight digits that follow are your number. This number should replace the use of your Social Security number on campus. No more stolen identities, OK?

All incoming freshmen and transfer students for fall 2009 will have their M number printed on their RacerCards. Everyone else will have a new card including their M number issued to them free of charge. Call the RacerCard office at 270-809-3003 if you have questions.

RacerCards are non-transferable. If used by someone other than the owner, a RacerCard will be confiscated by Dining Services cashiers and turned into the Dining Services office.
