Program Overview

Established in 2002, the Freshman Reading Experience program is designed to:

  • provide a common academic experience for freshmen
  • introduce students to academic life
  • create a greater sense of community among students, faculty, and staff
  • emphasize and improve reading skills
  • make connections between reading and campus cultural events

Each year, incoming freshman students are asked to buy and read the selected text before arriving on campus. Themes and lessons from the book will be common in freshman classes, as well as the focus of many special activities.
