Health Fair Has Been Rescheduled!

Wednesday, April 9th from 7:30am - 12pm
Curris Center Ballroom

There will be vision, hearing, BMI, Blood Pressure, waist circumference, EKG and Lipid panel screenings. There will also be information on the Kentucky Cancer Program, Racer Wellness, and a chance to speak with health professionals regarding your results.

If you choose to have the bloodwork done for the Lipid panel, please remember to fast 12 hours prior to the Health Fair (but drink plenty of water!).

 

2014 Financial Well-Being and Retirement Fair April 7-9

Please join us April 7-9 in the auditorium of Alexander Hall for MSU's third annual Financial Well-Being and Retirement Fair. Representatives from both KERS and KTRS as well as advisors for our Optional and Supplemental Retirement plans will be presenting valuable information on budgeting, estate planning, investing and planning for retirement. The schedule of events and topics being discussed are listed below:

 

Monday, April 7

10-11 am: Estate and Will Planning
    David Perlow, Attorney at Law, will discuss the importance of wills and how to get them established, when and how to use trusts, and strategies for effective estate planning.
1-2 pm: Retirement Benefits for KERS Members Hired Prior to 9/1/08
    Aimee Rives of the Kentucky Employees Retirement System (KERS) will give an overview of the retirement benefits for the employees who joined KERS before 9/1/08. She will provide important information for those who will retire under this system and will be available for employee questions.
2:30-3:30 pm: Retirement Benefits for KERS Members Hired After 9/1/08
    Aimee Rives of the Kentucky Employees Retirement System (KERS) will provide information on the retirement benefits for those who joined the system after 9/1/08. She will discuss the benefits of being enrolled in this retirement system and will be available for employee questions.

 

Tuesday, April 8

8:30-9:30 am: Retirement Has Changed--What's Your Next Move?
    Matt Idlett, financial advisor for Edward Jones and an ING representative, will show employees who are five to 15 years away from retirement how to take inventory of current assets and determine how much money is needed for retirement.
10-11 am: Steps to Better Money Habits
    Diana Thomason, financial consultant for Intercarolina Financial Services, will provide helpful information on living within your means, paying down debt, and planning for your financial future.
1-2 pm: Retirement Benefits for KTRS Members Hired Prior to 7/1/08
    Becky Niece of the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System (KTRS) will discuss retirement benefits for the employees who joined the system prior to 7/1/08. Topics include improving your KTRS account, preparing for retirement and eligibility for retirement. She will be available for employee questions.
2:30-3:30 pm: Retirement Benefits for KTRS Members Hired After 7/1/08
    Becky Niece of the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System (KTRS) will provide an overview of retirement benefits for those who joined the system after 7/1/08. Topics include retirement credit purchases and eligibility for retirement. She will be available to answer employee questions.

 

Wednesday, April 9

11:30 am-12:30 pm: Securing Your Retirement: Transforming Social Security Into A Winning Retirement Strategy
    Tammy Clark, financial advisor for The Legend Group, will conduct this seminar on making Social Security benefits work for you. She will also explain how and when to start receiving benefits.
1-2 pm: Retirement: Making Your Money Last
    Susan Wilson, financial advisor with Edward Jones, will discuss strategies for building and managing income and expenses during retirement and how to address concerns like inflation and market volatility.
2:30-3:30 pm: Retirement Strategies for Women
    Maclynn Scott, financial advisor with VALIC, will focus on overcoming the financial hurdles specific to women as they plan to invest for the future. This seminar is designed to help women of all ages accumulate the money they'll need for a financially secure retirement.

Qualifying Events:

 You may make changes to your health benefits mid-year due to marriage, divorce, death, birth, adoption, and gain or loss of dependent coverage. Please note: You only have 30 days after the date of the qualifying event to provide the supporting documentation to Human Resources to make this change or you must wait until Open Enrollment.

To see all the plans in which you are currently enrolled, login to myGate, then

1.  Click "Employee" tab (at top of page), then

2.  Click "Benefits" link on top left, then

3.  Ensure "As of date" is "Current" & click "Select" button.

 

 

KTRS CONTRIBUTIONS

Effective July 1, 2012 an employee electing membership with KTRS will contribute 6.84% if hired or has been a participate prior to July 1, 2008 in one of the Kentucky Retirement Systems' Plans. The employer's match will be 14.52%. An employee hired on or after July 1, 2008 and has not been a participant in one the Kentucky Retirement Systems' Plans, will contribute 7.16% of his/her gross salary. The employer's match is 14.84%.

 

Effective July 1, 2013 all employees electing membership with KTRS will contribute 7.16%. The employer's match will be 14.84%.

 

Effective July 1, 2014 all employees electing membership with KTRS will contribute 7.68%. The employer's match will be 15.36%.

 

Effective July 1, 2015 all employees electing membership with KTRS will contribute 8.185%. The employer's match will be 15.865%.
