Mandy
Wolf Detwiler, a 1998 Murray State University graduate, is a familiar
face on Zicam’s television commercial’s airing on NBC and CBS.
Her own personal experience with the cold remedy medicine garnered
her a trip to New York City for the commercial’s premiere and
a two-year (2006-2007) airing contract.
The managing editor for the Pizza Today magazine in
Louisville , Ky. , Detwiler can now be seen on Zicam commercials
running in primetime and syndication scheduled airings and also
on the company website at www.zicam.com
. Detwiler’s testimonial that Zicam “saved her one-year Walt-Disney
anniversary trip,” led her to pen a short e-mail to the company
after returning. “Prior to leaving on our trip, I woke up feeling
a cold coming on and colds always knock me off my feet. My mother
recommended trying Ziacam, an over the counter cold remedy medicine,”
she explained. “After taking the medicine, I was able to visit
three theme parks, have dinner and watch the fireworks the next
day.”
Detwiler said when she returned, she sent a short explanation
to Zicam and then forgot about it. “Ziacam saved that email for
two years before contacting me,” she said. “Last October when
I came home from work there was a message on the answering machine
from Zicam about filming a testimonial.”
Detwiler
said after sending a photo of her and her husband, Bill, to Zicam,
representatives from their company traveled to their Louisville
home to video tape the two. Detwiler was then chosen by Zicam
to travel to New York City last December to film the commercial.
“We filmed a two-day shoot in the rented houses Zicam uses for
their commercials,” she said.
It
wasn’t until a few months ago Detwiler was contacted by Zicam
and told that her commercial was chosen for airing. “They flew
my husband and me to New York City for the debut of the commercial,”
she said. “It was great. We were treated like movie stars and
enjoyed the royal treatment at New York ’s Bryant Park Hotel.”
Detwiler’s
face can now be seen in Zicam commercials that air during major
network syndicated shows including, “Survivor,” “The Ellen DeGeneres
Show,” “Dr. Phil,” and “CSI: New York .”
A
Louisville , Ky. , native who decided last minute to attend Murray
State University instead of Western Kentucky University because
of MSU’s effective marketing, Detwiler said it has been a great
experience. “I’ve even been thinking what else can I endorse.”
