Dr.
Jack Rose, professor and former dean of the MSU College
of Education, is the 2008 recipient of the Kentucky Association
of School Administrators’ William T. Nallia Award. The Kentucky
Association of School Administrators (KASA) presented the
award to Rose July 17, at its 39 th Annual Conference in
Louisville .
The
award is named in honor of Mr. William T. Nallia, a KASA
executive director from 1975-1986. Under his leadership,
the organization experienced tremendous growth and remained
at the forefront of innovation in public education in Kentucky
. The KASA Board of Directors presents the Nallia Award
annually to an education leader who has visionary leadership
which has contributed significantly to the quality of public
elementary and secondary education in Kentucky .
Rose,
well known in the education field, has worked for, mentored,
supervised or taught three generations of Kentucky school
leaders. During this time, he has been a tireless advocate
for quality public schools, both within the profession and
in the political and legislative arena. Rose is a 1965 and
1967 graduate of Murray State and a 1993 recipient of the
MSU Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Having
served more than 20 years as Superintendent of Calloway
County Schools, Rose now trains administrators at the university
level. His list of professional activities is lengthy,
including serving as the President of The Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS), also serving on the Education
Professional Standards Board and as one of the “founding
fathers” of the Kentucky Center for School Safety.
The
Kentucky Association of School Administrators is the largest
public school administrators’ group in Kentucky , representing
more than 3000 education leaders from across the Commonwealth.
Formed in 1969, the organization connects K-12 education
leaders to policy makers, legislators, and other interest
groups, and provides numerous benefits and services to Kentucky
’s school administrators.
