For
more than 30 years, MSU alumnus Robert Huff of Memphis,
Tenn., has designed state seals and personalized House and
Senate seals for elected officials throughout the U.S. Robert
Huff Designs has created seals for every county in Kentucky
and all 50 states.
Huff
designed a crest for his Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter
at Lambuth University during his senior year. Recognizing
the market for this product in every Kappa Sigma fraternity
house, his company was formed.
Soon
after receiving his master’s degree from Murray State in
1967, Huff was selected for an internship position with
the Memphis Chamber of Commerce. The job was a chance of
a life time for Huff, allowing him to travel to all 50 state
capitals. It was during this time he came up with the idea
for designing state seals.
The
first state seal was created shortly thereafter for Huff’s
fraternity brothers Curtis Person, Jr. and Ken Baker, Tennessee
state senator and state representative respectively. Since
that time Huff has traveled to all 50 states promoting his
business. Seals have also been made for foreign embassies
and the British Parliament.
Today
over 9,000 state senators and representatives across the
country have personalized Huff designed seals. The seals
are made of polyurethane and poured and cast in Water Valley,
Miss.
Most
recently Huff designed seals for Kentucky State Representative
and MSU alumnus Brent Yonts of Greenville, Ky., and Kentucky
Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo.
