Major Gen. Mark Graham nominated for TIME 100

Major Gen. Mark Graham, a 1977 Murray State University alumnus and 2008 MSU Distinguished Alumnus, was recently nominated for TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People by United States Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. One of approximately 200 people nominated to this prestigious list, Graham was selected for his efforts to reduce the increasing suicide rate in the Army. FULL STORY

 

Production Underway for Brown's Film 'Provinces of Night'

“Provinces of Night,” a new movie starring, produced and adapted for screen by Murray State alumnus W. Earl Brown, began production on April 15 th in Wilmington , N.C. A project three years in the making for Brown, the film is based on the novel of the same name by acclaimed author William Gay (“The Long Home,” “I Hate to See That Evening Sun Go Down”). Dr. Earl Jones Wins Oregon Vintner of the Year Award

Dr. Earl Jones, Marshall County native and 1961 Murray State University graduate, was recently presented with the Oregon Vintner of the Year Award, known as ORVI. Theatre Alums Tour Internationally with Cinderella

Brance Cornelius and Jamey Jennings recently wrapped-up a 10-month international tour of the Broadway Asia Entertainment production of Cinderella. Cornelius played several roles throughout the production and Jennings served as the company manager. FULL STORY

 

Moore Named President of St. Louis NCBW

Daffney Moore, a 1997 MSU alumna, was recently named president of the St. Louis Metropolitan chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW). Moore has been a member of the NCBW since 2002 and has served and led various committees since her inception. FULL STORY

Michael McKinney, 1969 agriculture alumnus of Murray State University of Tampa, Fla., has recently established the Michael McKinney “Hoosier Pride” Scholarship for Agriculture Studies at MSU to assist students in the school of agriculture residing in the neighboring state of Indiana . Survivor of the 1997 Heath High School Shooting in West Paducah , Ky. , Missy was a 15-year-old sophomore when classmate Michael Carneal opened fire on a before-school prayer group. Capt. Mark B. Lyles: Navy Dentist and Astronaut Hopeful

Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton Establishes Minority Scholarship at MSU

Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton, Murray State University alumna and president of Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland , is paving the way for future MSU minority students. Thornton recently established the Jerry Sue Thornton and John Barlow Pritchett Minority Scholarship in memory of her late brother. Quisenberry to Referee Olympic Soccer in Beijing

Kermit Quisenberry , 1993 and 1995 Murray State University alumnus, has been selected to officiate men’s soccer at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing . 95-Year-Old Ruth Wiman Tucker Returns for '58 Reunion

It’s a safe bet that the graduates who return for the Class of 1958 reunion at Murray State in May won’t remember having Ruth Wiman Tucker as one of their teachers. That’s because the silver-haired senior is one of their classmates.

The Mayfield resident, who just celebrated her 95 th birthday, enrolled at Murray State Teacher’s College four days after graduating from high school in 1930. “I paid $20 a month for room and board,” she said. “Can you believe it?”

Tom and Theo Tuck of Murray are sharing their love of horse riding and equine studies with Murray State University . Alumni of MSU, the Tucks have generously established several endowed scholarships and funds within the MSU School of Agriculture benefiting students in the areas of equine and rodeo studies. Additionally, the Tucks have named the MSU School of Agriculture the benefactor of a charitable remainder annuity trust, totaling their gifts to the MSU School of Agriculture to $2.2 million. 2008 All Campus Sing is a World-Wide Success

The 50 th Annual All Campus Sing at Murray State University was the largest and most successful to date. Sponsored by the Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) music fraternity, the MSU Alumni Association and the MSU Department of Music, 23 student groups participated in this special 50 th anniversary reunion competition. Russell to receive Honorary Doctorate from MSU

Johny Russell of Murray, a 1948 and 1950 Murray State University alumnus, will soon receive an Honorary Doctorate of Science degree from MSU. A retired nuclear physicist for the Boeing Company, he has enjoyed a life and career out of this world. Russell engineered and developed components for milestones in American air and space travel such as the B-1 Lancer Bomber, the Saturn V Launch Vehicle and the original Lunar Roving Vehicle, better known as the Moon Buggy. MSU Alumnus Appointed President and COO of Kirkbride Bible Co.

Michael B. Gage, a 1995 Murray State University alumnus, has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Kirkbride Bible Co.effective Sept. 1, 2007. In this capacity Michael will continue to serve the company as production and purchasing manager, as well as the company graphic arts designer. Richard Blalock II was able to enhance his pre-med skills while at Murray State through a summer internship with Dr. Eddie McFarland, a 1978 graduate who is vice chairman, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, and professor, Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery, at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.
