The Board of Regents approved the following changes to the university’s policy on Temporary employment. See the entire revised policy at
http://www.murraystate.edu/indir/hr/p/NEWIIB.htm.
Major changes:
- New policy is effective July 1, 2010.
- Temporary employees working 100 or more hours/month in KERS positions (generally, jobs that do not require a bachelors degree) may work for 9 consecutive months with no KERS contribution required.
- After working 9 consecutive months, then either a one calendar month break in service must occur or contributions to KERS must start.
- A one calendar month break is from the start of the calendar month to the end of it (e.g., March 1 to March 31).
- Temporary employees in KERS positions who work less than 100 hours/month may work up to 9 months and renew immediately.
- No PA for any temporary may exceed 9 months.
- Temporaries in KTRS positions (generally, jobs that require a bachelors degree) may work up to 9 months and renew immediately.
- I-9’s will not be required to be re-done after the one-calendar month break in service.
- If a regular employee works a second job as a temporary, the temporary position will very likely require retirement plan contributions immediately.
- After July 1, 2010, PA’s to renew a current temporary will likely only be permitted for a 3-month assignment. No temporaries will be permitted to work more than 9 consecutive months after this date without following the provisions of the policy changes.

Employees who have students (over age 19) included as dependents on their health insurance must submit a Student Verification form at the beginning of each semester certifying that the dependents are still full-time students. Without this verification, Anthem may deny claims submitted for the student. See http://www.murraystate.edu/indir/hr/stuverif.pdf

Faculty and professional staff job applicants can now apply for recently opened job searches at Murray State via the internet. This completes our process for having all job vacancies filled online. In addition, temporary employment pools have been established for Building Service Technicians, Grounds, Dining Service, and clerical staff and are now filled via MSU’s online application system.

Department heads…. Not available to approve the time worked or leave time reports submitted by your department members? Your proxy should be available for this. Is someone changing jobs in your department? Contact Kayla or Stephanie in payroll to learn about the status of proxies if necessary.
The bi-weekly and monthly payroll calendars found on MyGate Procedures Central are your guide for timing for processing PA's. If a bi-weekly paid employee's PA is received after the payroll run date, the employee must complete a "Late Time Sheet," found on Forms Central, for all pay periods that were missed.
