Benefits/Information for Regular, Full-time and Regular, Part-time Staff Employees

Vacation - All Employees

10 days per year for first through fourth year
15 days per year for fifth through tenth year
17 days per year for eleventh through fourteenth year
20 days per year beginning fifteenth year
Maximum of 1 1/2 times annual allowable maximum at the end of each fiscal year

Sick Leave - All Employees

1 day earned for each month of service; maximum accumulation of 180 days

Term Life Insurance (Fort Dearborn Life Insurance Company) - Full-time Employees
Effective the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.

Basic Coverage - $10,000 term life insurance and $10,000 accidental death on each employee; paid by University

Supplemental Coverage (optional) - new employee may purchase amount equal to annual salary (up to $100,000) without evidence of insurability. Additional amounts, in $1,000 increments, may be selected up to an overall maximum of $250,000 with evidence of insurability.

Premiums for up to the first $50,000 of life insurance will be deducted on a pre-tax basis.

Medical Insurance - Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield - Full-time Employees
Effective the first day of the month following 30 days of employment

Comprehensive major medical coverage up to lifetime maximum of $1,000,000; choice of three levels of coverage (Anthem Blue Access Standard PPO, Anthem Blue Access Enhanced PPO, and Anthem Blue Access Basic plan). Certificate booklet available in Human Resources. The health insurance premium payment will automatically be deducted on a pre-tax basis.

Tax-Saver Program - Full-time Employees
Effective the first day of the month following 30 days of employment

The health insurance premium will be withheld from your gross wages but the premium will not be included in your taxable income and your taxes will be reduced.

An employee may set aside up to $5,000 in an individual medical spending tax-saver account for reimbursement of the out-of-pocket medically-related expenses incurred during a calendar year. Money put into a medical spending account is not subject to federal and state income taxes or to Social Security tax.

A dependent care account can be used for reimbursement of day care costs of a dependent under the age of 13 or a dependent child or adult who spends at least eight hours per day in your home and is incapable of caring for himself or herself while you work. Money put into a dependent care account is not subject to federal and state income taxes or to Social Security tax. The maximum which can be put into a dependent care account is $5,000.

Disability Insurance - Full-time Employees

Short-term and/or long-term disability is offered by Murray State University through McConnell Insurance Agency, 905 Sycamore Street, Murray, KY 42071, telephone - (270) 753-4199.

Participants in the Kentucky Employees Retirement System are covered for permanent disability after five years of service. Payments are figured as regular retirement at age 65 except years of service are added if you have less than 25 years of service.

Workers' Compensation - All Employees

All employees are protected by Kentucky Workers' Compensation law; includes payment of loss as the result of a work-related injury or disease, such as medical and hospital care costs, loss of work time, permanent disability, and death as provided by the terms of the Kentucky workers' Compensation Act.

Retirement - Mandatory for Full-time Employees and Certain Part-time Employees

Social Security - All University employees are covered by Social Security. Contribution: Employee - 7.65%; employer - 7.65%; maximum earnings for calendar year 2005 - $90,000 (subject to change)

Kentucky Employees Retirement System - covers all regular, full-time and regular, part-time staff employees who work an average of 100 hours or more per month. Contribution: employee - 5%; employer - 8.50% for non-hazardous coverage; employee - 8%; employer - 24.25% for hazardous coverage.

Non-hazardous retirement benefits calculated as follows: Average salary (5 highest years) x 1.97% x years of service. Employee must have five years of service to have a vested account.

A member may retire at any age with no reduction in benefits if the member has 27 or more years of service credit.

A member may retire after 25 years of service with a 5 percent reduction for each year less than 27 or for each year the member is under age 65 whichever is less.

A member age 55 with at least five years of service but less than 25 years of service may retire early with a reduction in benefits.

Tax-Sheltered Annuities (Optional) - All Employees

Waiver of Tuition - All employees

Murray State Policy:

Tuition waived for up to six (6) credit courses (effective Fall Semester, 1997) per twelve month fiscal year, not to exceed one (1) course offered during working hours in any given semester or session. Any staff member with at least six months of continuous service may transfer any unused portion of the tuition waiver benefit to their lawful spouse and/or dependent child(ren). A child includes natural, adopted or step-child or person for whom the employee has been given legal guardianship. A child is defined as a person under the age of 24 years at the beginning of the academic term during which the benefit is effective.

State of Kentucky Policy:

Any regular full-time employee of a postsecondary public institution may with prior administrative approval of the course offering institution, take a maximum of six (6) credit hours per term at any public postsecondary institution. The institution shall waive the tuition up to a maximum of six (6) credit hours per term.

Free Speech and Hearing Evaluations for All Employees and Dependents

Therapy free to employee; charges apply for dependents.

Reduced Prices for Athletic Season Tickets - Full-time Employees

University Bookstore - All Employees

Faculty and staff with a valid I.D. card will receive a 10 percent courtesy discount on all items purchased at the University Bookstore except cosmetics, medicine, cigarettes, magazines, greeting cards, candy and sale items.

Recreational Facilities - All Employees

Recreational facilities are available for use by employees and their dependents during scheduled hours. Racer I.D. may be required.

Library Privileges - All Employees

All University employees are eligible to use the full services of the University libraries. Each employee must have a valid I.D. card.

Credit Union - All Employees

Corporate Cards - American Express and Diners Club

Both cards are for business use only. American Express has an annual membership fee.
