Getting
Started Checklist
The purpose of this checklist is
to ensure that newly admitted freshmen students have completed
all required administrative steps before beginning classes. These
items are all linked to the appropriate office to provide additional
information.

Get Admitted
- Application
- Application Fee
- High School transcript (incoming freshman)/college transcript
(transfer)
- Standardized test score (ACT) (incoming freshman)
Housing
- Application and deposit (living on campus)
- Exemption form (living at home)
- Deadline: Priority Date (first come, first served)
Scholarships
- Applications available online, by mail, in person at MSU,
starting October 1.
- Deadline: February 1. Students should take
the ACT before (or during) December for scores to be considered.
Financial Aid
- Fill out Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and MSU Financial
Aid Application (note: this must be done EACH YEAR).
- Priority deadline: April 1
After Admission
- Make sure any transfer credit or AP credit is sent to Admissions
office
- Send final high school or college transcript
- Summer Orientation material mailed in March
- Sign up for Summer Orientation session
Bursar
- Payment Plan
- Interview Form, Loans (Federal)
Summer Orientation
- First stage of adjustment to college life
- Receive academic advising and class registration priority
- Sign up for any necessary testing (challenge exams, placement
tests)
- Receive information about student financial aid and the
MSU billing process
- Find out housing assignment
- Sign up for meal plan
Great Beginnings
- Pre-School Welcome and transition period for new students
- Campus orientation and semester preparation activities
to assist new students in their adjustment to college life
- Incoming students occupy Residence Colleges earlier than
other students.
