This year is passing rapidly, and what a great year we are having. After a few typically hot weeks in July and August, we can now enjoy some nice fall weather. The golf course came through the summer remarkably well. For those of you who have played much golf locally away from Miller G.C. you will be aware of what a difficult summer it has been for bent grass greens! Our hats must go off to the grounds staff for doing an excellent job maintaining the entire course. Free Personalization on Titleist & Pinnacle Golf BallsThis Holiday season order as little as one dozen Titleist or Pinnacle golf balls through the golf shop and receive free personalization of up to three lines of block text. Choose from red, blue, green, and black colors. Orders must be placed between October 1 and December 10, 2005 to ensure Holiday delivery. Please ask the golf shop staff for complete details. Women's & Kids' ClinicsLater this month we will be finishing our first season of clinics. Both clinics have been a tremendous success. Our goal has been to provide quality instruction to both women and children in our community, and to present that instruction in a positive way. This has been achieved thanks to the excellent support from both the men's and women's Murray State golf teams, and especially Velvet Milkman. We hope to continue this partnership for future clinics. Be looking out for more clinics coming in the spring of 2006. New Fleet of Carts Coming in 2006 One green that did not struggle this summer was our Bermuda grass practice green. The last 2 to 3 months has proven why this grass could be a viable option for our greens. With more area courses moving to Champion Bermuda we will watch their progress closely. The Greens Get Greener Miller G.C. recently agreed to be part of a Murray State contract to purchase its fuel. Starting soon we will replace our regular 87 octane fuel and diesel with an E-10 blend gas and biodiesel. E-10 blend gas is a corn based fuel substitute and biodiesel is a soy bean based fuel. Both of these fuels are designed to be safer for the environment and will help our local farmers!! Stay Healthy This WinterJust because winter is coming do not put the clubs up yet!! Golf is a great form of exercise, not to mention the fresh air. Reduce cabin fever and commit to playing more winter golf. Remember, it's an annual membership!! |
Construction is well underway of our new facilities. We hope to have possession of the new clubhouse and pro shop before Christmas. I think you will all be amazed at the improvement this is going to make to your membership at Miller G.C. You can all start making plans for how you can use the new pavilion in 2006, whether it's to use for a golfing event or even a family reunion. Merchandise Availability Obviously, the new pro shop will bring new opportunities for us to serve you better. Our intent is to provide you with a better selection of retail merchandise and a slightly wider variety of concessions. We already have accounts set up with most major golf equipment manufacturers, so if there is something we do not stock it can always be ordered and priced competitively. We hope you all can support us in this venture. With more merchandise being stocked, Miller G.C. is a place you might want to think about doing some Christmas shopping. Gift certificates are always available, balls and gloves make great stocking stuffers, or better still, how about an annual membership for that special golfer!! Something to Think About In our effort to make Miller G.C. your golf home, we are going to provide a bi-monthly tournament schedule in 2006. The events will run on Saturday mornings starting late March or early April. A schedule of events will be posted at the beginning of the year. All members are invited and encouraged to play. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the pro shop the week preceding each event. To play, each member must establish a handicap (something we are encouraging all members to do regardless of ability). Obviously, there are many great things happening at Miller G.C. This is going to require a little help. We would like to form a small committee within the membership to assist with these events. The Committee will be comprised of: Stay up-to-date on all the latest happenings at Miller G.C. Finally, we hope you find this newsletter both informative and interesting. In an effort to save resources we would encourage all of you to provide us with an email address for future mailings. For those of you without internet access we would be happy to send you mail via regular mail. |
