Illiad: MSU's Interlibrary Loan System
- ILLiad is an Interlibrary Loan system developed by OCLC. With ILLiad, you can access and track your requests from any Web browser, as well as have electronic documents delivered to your desktop. As with MSU's E-Study Center and PIN systems, ILLiad requires a one-time registration process. After you register, you will only need to key in your user ID and password each time you make an Interlibrary Loan request. Your profile information will be stored and automatically inserted into your requests.
Who can use Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
- Currently enrolled MSU graduate and undergraduate students
- Current and retired MSU faculty and staff
What can I order through ILL?
- Books, photocopies of periodical articles, and government documents
- Microform items, audiovisual materials, current newspapers, reference books, periodicals and rare books are difficult to borrow through ILL. If an item is not available through ILL, sometimes it may be purchased from a document delivery service.
How many items can I order using ILL?
- Unless ILL grants special permission, the number of active requests per person at one time will not exceed these limits:
- Faculty - No Limit
- Emeritus Faculty - No Limit
- Staff - No Limit
- Graduate Students - No Limit
- Undergraduate Students - 20 items
Alumni and all other individuals are encouraged to place ILL requests through their local public libraries.
How much does it cost to use ILL?
- Patrons will only be charged a fee if items cannot be borrowed for free or if the Interlibrary Loan Office must print material. There will be a charge of $.10 per page. Each lending library establishes policies on lending fees. When completing an ILL request form, be sure to put the maximum amount you are willing to pay in the appropriate field.
How long does it take to receive materials through ILL?
-
DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!! Some items may arrive quickly. Others may take up to two weeks, so allow enough time for the system to process your request.
How do I request an ILL?
- You may request an ILL by using the Illiad link. Fill out one form per request. Providing a complete citation greatly increases our chances of borrowing the materials you are requesting and receiving materials in a timely fashion, so please provide as much information as possible.
How will I be notified when my ILL materials arrive?
-
We prefer to notify patrons via e-mail, so please provide the e-mail address that you use most often.
How will I receive my materials?
- Books, government documents and other print materials may be picked up at the Waterfield Library Reference Office. Scanned photocopies are made available through Illiad
How long may I keep books borrowed through ILL?
- The due date will be on a book strap attached to the front of the book. Some items may be renewed. You'll need to contact the ILL Office a few days before the book is due so that we may request a renewal.
What is Desktop Delivery?
- Your ILL material will be posted to a web server in .pdf format. You will receive an e-mail notice when the material is posted. Simply login to your Illiad account and click the "View/Download Electronically Received Articles" button. You will need to have Acrobat Readerinstalled on your machine to view the article. The article will be available for your use for 15 days. The article may be printed or saved to a hard drive (most PDF files are too large to save to a floppy disk.) After 15 days, the article will be automatically removed from the server.
