About the Center

For more than 50 years, NASA has pioneered in the fields of science, engineering and technology and has shared these discoveries with educators throughout the nation. NASA Langley Research Center has expanded its educational outreach program through the establishment of Educator Resource Centers. The NASA Educator Resource Center at Murray State University was established in November, 1988. It provides educators with an easily accessible source of state-of-the-art aerospace materials which can be incorporated into the classroom at all levels. These resources reflect NASA's aerospace research and technology and relate to such curriculum areas as life science, physical science, space science, computer science, astronomy, chemistry, physics, mathematics and career guidance.

Resource Material

Videos - More than 200 video programs are available for duplication. Programs cover all areas of NASA's works and are of various lengths. Subjects include programs such as aeronautics, careers, Earth resources, energy, lunar exploration, manned spaceflight, physics, the Space Shuttle, technology utilization, and weather. Videos do not circulate outside of the Center, but can be duplicated. There is a $4.00 charge per 60 minute VHS tape. Educators may provide their own tape (contact the Center for the recommended brands) and eliminate the $4.00 charge. Shipping and handling is $2.00 per tape whether the Center provides the tape or not. These charges must be prepaid.

Slide Programs - For the convenience of educators, the Center has a collection of single-subject slide programs. Some slide programs include script or audio cassette narration. Slides can be reproduced at a charge of $.50 each or the Center will accept Tungston 50 ASA (E-6 process) film for reproduction. Scripts can be photocopied at $.10 per page up to 50 pages. Photocopy charges are $.15 per page for more than 50 pages. Audio cassette duplication charges are $.64 for 15 minutes per side, $1.00 for 30 minutes per side, and $1.15 for 45 minutes per side. These charges must be prepaid.

NASA Publications - NASA publications are available to educators at no charge. These publications, applicable to educational and classroom use, cover a wide variety of subject areas influenced by NASA research and technology. Publications include booklets, pamphlets, posters and lithograghs. Reference books and one-of-a-kind items on NASA topics are available for use in the Center only.

Material may be requested by using the request form or contacting the Center by phone or mail.
