Internet Resources:
- What is plagiarism? - From Georgetown University, a good list of definitions using student excuses as the lead-in
- Plagiarism Resource Site - This section of the larger resource site provides links to a variety of software tools, and other resources.
- Plagiarism Detection Services - From University of Michigan, this site provides good abstracts on the major detection services. Recently updated.
- UMUC Plagiarism Resource Site (Detection services) - Excellent and well maintained site from the University of Maryland, which includes detection services, evaluation of detection services, articles on incidence, academic integrity, assignment development, etc.
- Plagiarism* - Developed by Sharon Stoerger, this site includes links to articles about plagiarism, has a section on copyright & intellectual freedom, a section for instructors, a section for students, plagiarism case studies, and plagiarism detection tools. Excellent for review information on detection tools.
- A Faculty Guide to Cyber-Plagiarism - From University of Alberta, the sidebar is especially useful.
- Evergreen State College: Quick Reference-Anti-plagiarism - Excellent quick list of detection tools.
- Plagiarism: What It is and How to Recognize and Avoid It - From Indiana University, this is an especially good site for demonstrating paraphrasing and such concepts as " common knowledge." Well done examples.
- Anti-Plagiarism Strategies for Research Papers, by Robert Harris - Nicely designed comprehensive site on detection and assignment design.
- Avoiding Plagiarism - From Purdue University's writing lab, an entertaining guide for students showing rules and examples in tabular format, including a very useful "Contradictions of American Academic Writing."
- Plagiarism: A Guide for Instructors - While the design of this page is not terribly sophisticated, the content provides a useful guide for searching Google and Ebsco (among others). Both Google advanced search and Ebsco search windows have changed design somewhat, but the information provided is helpful. Important point omitted in most sites: material copied from professional literature found on proprietary databases (e.g. Ebsco) CAN NOT be found using a search engine like Google.
- Copyright Basics and the Internet - Produced at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, MI; page supports teachers and their attempts to encourage respect for intellectual property; good tabular format with basic definitions of seminal terms.
- Educator's Guide to Intellectual Property - White paper created by graduate students at University of Illinois; good, if wordy, introduction to terms and issues often heard in the debate.
- MLA.org - The Modern Language Association home page; choose either "MLA Style" or FAQs for information on citing electronic resources.
- APAStyle.org - Suggestions for electronic citation using APA style.
- The New Plagiarism: Seven Antidotes to Prevent Highway Robbery in an Electronic Age - Article discusses ways to design research projects that discourage copy/paste.
- Noodletools - Simple site designed by a librarian and her son to help students design a research strategy, select search engines, and format citations correctly.
- Plagiarism Stoppers: A Teacher's Guide - Illinois school librarian site; a list of plagiarism resources for teachers (primarily K-12, but useful for everyone).
- Probing for Plagiarism in the Virtual Classroom - Lindsey S. Hamlin and William T. Ryan - Find out about detection, deterrence, and student awareness in cyperspace.
