Introduction

On January 10, 2005, Murray State University launched a sweeping new assessment Alexander Hallinitiative focused on student learning outcomes on the programmatic level.  This initiative is part of a comprehensive and coordinated effort that uses student learning as an indicator of institutional effectiveness. Our initiatives are focused upon both student-learning outcomes assessment in the academic units and assessment of the Characteristics of the Murray State University Graduate across the entire university through the Quality Enhancement Plan. The institution uses assessment information to improve teaching and learning across the curriculum. Additionally, assessment data is used to inform strategic planning and institutional effectiveness.
