Master of Science in Economics
and
M.S. in Economics with Finance Emphasis

Purpose

  • To prepare students for further graduate study in economics and finance.
  • To qualify students for a wide variety of career positions in business, government, and private agencies.
  • To prepare students to be effective teachers of economics or finance at the community college or university level.

Length of Program

The MS Economics program consists of 30 semester hours, including a core curriculum and an area of concentration or electives. It is possible to complete the program in one calendar year as opposed to some programs which can take at least two years.

Cost

The cost of the MS Economics program is very reasonable. Also, a number of Graduate Teaching and Research Assistantships, and a wide variety of other forms of financial assistance are available each year. Download Graduate Assistantship Form (PDF)

Admission Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with at least a minor in economics or its equivalent. Applicants without an economics minor can be conditionally admitted and complete necessary prerequisites at MSU.
  • A grade point average of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.
  • The student's overall record, including undergraduate training, experience and GMAT or GRE score will be evaluated.

* No more than one elective (3 hours) may be taken in any one of the following disciplines:
Accounting, Computer and Information Systems, Management, Marketing, or Office Systems.
