Frequently Asked Questions

  • My undergraduate degree is NOT in Business. Can I still pursue the MBA?
Absolutely, yes. As a matter of fact, nearly a third of Bauernfeind MBA students are from non-business backgrounds such as agriculture, education, engineering, chemistry, biology, occupational safety and health, geography, physics, and mathematics, to name a few. The Bauernfeind MBA foundation courses will take care of your deficiency in business.

  • Can I take graduate courses while completing my undergraduate degree?
Only those students within 6 credit hours of completing their undergraduate degree are allowed to take graduate courses, as long as they satisfy the other admission requirements.

  • Which entrance exam do I take: the GMAT or GRE?
Prior to October 2005, students could only take the GMAT to get into the Bauernfeind MBA Program. Since October 2005, you have the option of taking either the GMAT or GRE. For admission consideration, all candidates must take either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) OR the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). There are no exceptions to this rule. Ask ETS to send scores directly to Murray State University using our institution code: 1494. Students who are in Murray should consult the Counseling and Testing Center in Ordway Hall (next to the MSU main library) or call them at (270) 762-6851 about taking the test.

  • Unconditional Admission
If you take the GMAT, then you must satisfy the GMAT admission formula, which is: (200 x GPA) + GMAT > 1,000 Points. If you take the GRE, on the other hand, you must satisfy the GRE formula, which is: (200 x GPA) + GRE > 1,400 Points. This GRE formula uses the combined score from the Quantitative and Verbal sections only.
