37th Annual Chemistry Scholarship Tournament Held at MSU

Sixteen high schools from three states were represented by team and individual participants in the 37th Murray State University High School Chemistry Scholarship Tournament, November 8, 2007.

      A total of 59 students from high schools in Kentucky, Illinois, and Tennessee participated in the activity sponsored by the MSU Department of Chemistry, in conjunction with the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society.
     
The four top-scoring individuals will be offered scholarships to Murray State and were presented cash awards and plaques, while the top-scoring teams were presented cash awards and plaques.  Cash awards

were also presented to the three highest scoring individuals currently in the first year of high school chemistry.




      The four top-scoring individuals were: Ziyou Tang, First Place, Murray High School, Murray, KY, Becky Fairbanks, Sponsor; Mason Manning, Second Place, Murray High School, Murray, KY, Becky Fairbanks, Sponsor; Roman Oundirenko, Third Place, Marshall CountyAward Table High School, Benton, KY, Lisa Devillez, Sponsor; Courtney Elder, Fourth Place, Calloway County High School, Murray, KY, Jeremy Krug, Sponsor.
     
Winners in the Lower Division section were: Will Roberts, First Place, Mayfield High School, Mayfield, KY, Mary Seay, Sponsor; Alex McClanahan, Graves County High School, Beth Shadrick, Sponsor; Cortland Kemp, Third Place, Calloway County High School, Jeremy Krug, Sponsor.
     
The school team winners were: First Place, Murray High School, Murray, KY, Becky Fairbanks, Sponsor; Second Place, Marshall County High School, Benton, KY, Lisa Devillez, Sponsor; Third Place, Calloway County High School, Murray, KY, Jeremy Krug, Sponsor. Fourth Place, Reidland High School, Paducah, KY, Jodi Butler, Sponsor.
